A Hidden Enclave,
born from Rebellion

27 Warstone Lane

Tucked away inside an old bullion factory in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, The Goat King is more than a dining room.

It’s a 24-seat enclave inspired by the defiant warriors of 1849 Panjab, following it's annexation  by East India Company — a time when gathering, eating, and training together was an act of quiet resistance.

Today, that spirit lives on in a bold Anglo-Indian menu we call BrumJabi — where Jhatka-prepared goat, venison, and wild boar meet seasonal British produce and slow-cooked soul.

This is food for gathering. For laughing. For speaking freely.
No table turning. No ticking clocks. Just one long night done right.

*Jhatka, the Warrior's way

Jhatka is a traditional Panjabi method of butchery — swift, clean, and humane. No slow suffering. No unnecessary fear. One sharp strike. One moment.

For many, Jhatka is more than a method. It is a belief. A principle of respect. Of intention. Of doing things properly.

At The Goat King, we honour that warrior spirit in every cut. Goat, venison, wild boar, all cooked low and slow, and all sourced with purpose. No shortcuts. No compromise.

Meet Rav,
The heart behind
The Goat King

For Ravinder Ubhi — or just Rav — food is more than flavour. It’s memory, deep-rooted joy and for family gatherings

Raised in the slow-simmered traditions of Panjabi kitchens, Rav has spent over twenty years cooking from the heart. Not just to fill plates, but to bring people together.

The Goat King is his love letter to that spirit. A place where healthy, hearty food is shared, not served. Where every dish is rooted in heritage and cooked with imagination.

You’ll find Rav behind the stove, behind the stories, and usually with a grin on his face — proud to feed a community that feels like home.

You might recognise Rav from the BBC series Recipes That Made Me, where he joined host Nisha Katona to talk all things Punjabi cooking — from the magic of butter to why a properly caramelised onion is at the heart of every great curry.

Stories from the table

If only all restaurants we're able to provide food of this quality with the personal service that Rav provides. The food exudes flavour that has you crying out for more, even if you are unable to finish the plentiful portions. This restaurant is a hidden gem run by a culinary goat King 👑

SIMON

100% recommend The Goat King (also known as 24 Carrot Gold) for anyone wanting a change to their usual curry or mixed grills so popular in Birmingham's many Desi pubs!

MIKE

I’ve spent hours here, literally. First found the place after stepping out of the fine dining gaff next door. The smell of curry in the air had us like the Pied Piper, straight through the door and into what’s become one of my favourite places to eat.
